I work in multiple disciplines and am also a mixed-media artist naturally drawn toward abstraction. I incorporate a variety of mediums because each have unique attributes that function as a rich visual vocabulary for the narratives I depict in my work. Addressing themes of personal experience or points of view others can relate to, I strive to impart a message of acceptance and optimism in my work. Initially, our experiences have an unavoidable impact upon our being. My desire is to claim conscious power of choice, as to their long-term effects and encourage others in their own journey through my art. The purpose of my art is the compelling need to conceive, design, construct, and to visually communicate complex ideas – a drive which has influenced my life since childhood.
Currently, I am exploring the desire to know myself. “Fifty-Five, (2024)” is the second in a series dealing with self-discovery. It is a chronological survey of my life over fifty-five years that confronts two concurrent themes: what life presented to me, and how I was affected or responded to it. My goal for this project was to approach the subject matter in a non-biased, facts-only way by simply recording what was. During this candid research process, I gained greater understanding of dynamics that have existed in my life, clarifying how and where they began. The work before you today narrows this broad topic to the core events that made the greatest negative impact.
